“My name is Jamie A. I am 25 years old and a mommy to one beautiful daughter, Aaryn. I am from Louisville, born and raised. I recently started a YouTube channel, Blessed & Busy, where I plan to discuss life experiences in hopes to help someone who may be going through “it”. I think it’s so important for women, mothers especially, to stick together and be there for one another.”
RAVEN: How did becoming a mother change you?
JAMIE: Becoming a mother gave me a purpose in life. Everything that I do is strategic and intentional, because I am working towards creating the “best life” for my daughter. Being a mother gives me the drive to set and achieve goals, whereas before I would procrastinate and put things off. She gives me a reason to plan, push, and prosper.
RAVEN: Who does your daughter remind you of the most?
JAMIE: My daughter is truly her own person. I tell people all the time that she isn’t exactly like me or her dad, but she does have characteristics of the both of us. She is outgoing, friendly, and hilarious just like her dad. She is also passionate, caring, and observant, which I think she gets from me. I’d like to think she is the perfect mixture of us both.
RAVEN: What’s one of your favorite proud mom moments?
JAMIE: My favorite proud mom moment right now, is Aaryn being able to go to kindergarten a year early. There was an early admission test that she had to take in order to prove her readiness and she passed with flying colors. I am so proud that she is going into kindergarten as a 4yr old.
RAVEN: What is one thing you hope to teach your daughter?
JAMIE: One thing that I am currently teaching my daughter (because it’s never too early, right?), is to put God first. I am teaching Aaryn to pray and to always know that God is with her. I feel that it’s so important to teach her to trust that God does everything for a reason. I wanted to start early with guiding her to the Lord, so that she is able to build her own relationship and understanding for God’s purpose in her life.
RAVEN: What traits of your own mother do you think you have inherited?
JAMIE: A trait that I have inherited from my mother is selflessness. My mother is the most selfless person that I know. She has gone over and beyond for her children, always putting our needs and wants before her own. I am that same way with Aaryn. I want her to know that there is NOTHING that I won’t do for her and that she comes first. Even at 25yrs old, I know that I can call my mom for anything and I want Aaryn to feel the same way.
RAVEN: Tell me a little more about your YouTube channel.
JAMIE: My YouTube channel is what I like to consider a “meeting place” for those that frequently ask for my advice or opinion. There isn’t one particular topic that I cover. My goal is to discuss and open up about everything “LIFE”, from motherhood, relationships, goals, grieving, starting a business, self care, etc. I just want to share my life experiences with those who may be going through something that I’ve been through. If I can give one piece of advice to help someone else, I will feel accomplished.
RAVEN: Do you like to read? What are you currently reading?
JAMIE: I love reading. I use reading as a “getaway” when I just need a break from the world. Currently I am reading “Whiskey Words & a Shovel” by r.h. Sin. So far, I’m in love with it. I don’t want to give away any of the details but if you’re looking for something meaningful to read, I highly suggest checking it out.
RAVEN: How do you practice self care?
JAMIE: I always tell people that self care for me, is never a set routine. I just do whatever I feel like I need right in that moment. Sometimes my self care is as simple as lighting a new candle and reading. I also enjoy having dinner by myself because it gives me time to enjoy delicious food and reflect. Self care is whatever makes you feel good! As women and mothers, a lot of times we forget about ourselves and what makes US happy. But it’s so important to squeeze ourselves in somewhere. So to all the mama’s, paint your nails, read that book, meditate, run that bubble bath…whatever it takes! Because lets face it, we are at our best when we are happy and content with self.
